There is costume contest at the race which will bring out many runners to race the
5K in green shamrocks, Leprechauns, Pots of Gold, and other fun St. Paddy’s Day
themed outfits. This year’s race falls one day prior to Saint Patrick’s Day, so people have
the chance to begin their festivities early at the race in the most fun St. Paddy’s
Celebration in the South Bay.

Chase Stecyk, who grew up in Redondo Beach, will be honored at the race and
race participants are encouraged to wear green in honor of Chase’s favorite color and for
his favorite holiday, Saint Patrick’s Day. Chase was just eleven years old when he died
of a tumor that paralyzed him from the waist down. In memory of Chase Stecyk, Race
Director Mike Ward has named the renamed the kid’s race the kids race the ‘Chase
Stecyk Leprechaun Dash for Gold.’

Maxwell Huckabee, known to his fans as the young star of “Dexter” and also for
his recurring role in “Mad Men,” will be the host of the Chase Stecyk Little Leprechaun
Dash and an Honorary Starter of the 11th Saint Patrick’s Day 5K.

The 11-year-old Huckabee is a resident of Redondo Beach. The 5th grader has
starred as the young “Dexter” and has also played Don Draper’s son in “Mad Men.”
Huckabee’s other appearances include “Pretty Little Liars,” “Bones,” and “Alias.”
Recently Huckabee has been playing the lead role in “Oliver,” during its February run at
the Hermosa Beach Playhouse.

Huckabee, who has also appeared in commercials for major brands including
McDonald’s and Mercedes-Benz, attends Alta Vita Elementary School in Redondo
Beach. Theater has been a whole new twist for Huckabee who has been appearing on
television since he was 3 years old. He is represented by talent agency Amsel,
Einsenstadt & Frazier and while he has formal management, he has had no formal
training as an actor. He is simply a “natural.” Huckabee, while not a track star, is
constantly running while playing tennis. This is a sport he is passionate about.

The St. Patrick's Day 5K Run/Walk and Little Leprechaun Dash for the Gold
expect over 2,500 runners to take the starting line in Riviera Village. A share of the
proceeds will go to local schools after-school programs.

Participants often race in bright green, Saint Patrick’s Day themed outfits with
shamrocks painted on their faces and bodies. They wear lucky beads, Leprechaun hats,
and green party outfits. Following the race, runners celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day at local
restaurants and bars.

There will be a team competition with the top five combined times by the fastest
team earning special awards. Prices to enter include an early entry fee of $30 by March
8, 2014, and $35 after March 8, 2014. For the Kid’s Dash, the entry fee is $25 by 3/8/14
