Summer Jazz Camps in the Beach Cities

June 19th - Palos Verdes Estates -
Summer is here and it’s time to find activities for those talented young musicians! For those interested in Jazz, a workshop is being offered every Tuesday, Thursday. & Saturday. August (6th-24th), conveniently scheduled from 5:00-6:30pm at the Annex.

This event is being headed by Molly and Sammy Miller, acclaimed musicians from USC and Juilliard respectively, who have worked with a wide range of artists from to Jason Mraz to David Benoit. Topics covered in the workshop include improvising, ensemble playing, and the history of jazz.

Students will work with their peers as well as faculty members to gain a deeper understanding of music and modern jazz. Students should bring their own instruments.

“When I started, I really didn't know what to think or what to expect, but now I really love music! I even sometimes get paid to play it!” says Noah Pacifici, 2013 PVHS graduate and Cornell student, “it all started here.”

This is open to all ages and all level students on the peninsula and throughout the south bay. The cost for nine sessions and nearly fourteen hours of instruction is only $150 and in an effort to make this program accessible to all youth, financial aid is available.

“Music can give youth purpose, something they can fall in love with that changes people for the better” says Dr. Greg Allen, family psychologist,”it helps give them a powerful reason to work harder.”

Graduates will be invited to play at Terreanea’s Jazz Through the Generations Festival on August 25th. This is being sponsored by Freedom4U, a non-profit organization that aims to release youth through creativity.
