What are genetically modified organisms (GMOs)?

Join VOICE to hear  Jim Montgomery the co-leader of the Torrance/South Bay chapter of LabelGMOs.org, the volunteer non-profit group that got Proposition 37, the Label Genetically Engineered Food initiative on the November 2012 ballot.   Proposition 37 was narrowly defeated, but we are continuing our efforts to educate people about the environmental and public health risks of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and genetically engineered (GE) foods.  Jim has been concerned with the risks of GMOs since hearing about the first genetically engineered food crop, the Flavr Savr tomato in 1994.  An engineer by training, Jim has been actively learning about and spreading the word about the unique dangers of GMOs to our health and environment ever since. He will discuss why should you be concerned about the risks of GMOs to your health and the environment?  How can you avoid them?  Come get answers to these questions and more.  Literature will be provided to help inform you and give you resources for further self-education, as well as ways to take action if you so choose.  A Q&A session will follow the talk.
