AES…A National Security Concern? Are We Losing Control Of Our Power Grid To Foreign Interests, Like China, Via AES?

Do we want the AES and/or the Chinese government influencing our power grid?

It appears that foreign shareholders own 20% of AES? Do we want a company running a not considered "must run" polluting power generating facility in Redondo Beach that is heavily controlled by China? Many of us admire the Chinese culture, its citizens and at the same time continually hope for more human rights, freedoms and democracy within China's borders.  Do we really want the possibility of the Chinese government having more and more influence over our electricity grid's reliability (think Tiananmen Square protests of 1989)? Who's to say that Chinese shareholdings won't increase and suddenly we find the AES portfolio of LA Basin power plants in the control of the Chinese (and therefore possibly the Chinese Government)? Shouldn't such powerful power utilities be more in our own countries control? As citizens of Redondo Beach, shouldn't we consider the incredible amount of mailers and propaganda being shoved in our faces all paid for by AES? The no on measure A mailer campaign is so disturbing. It's the kind of political campaign you would expect from a totalitarian government or communist government that often seeks to deceive its citizens. Many of us believe there are parts of our society we shouldn't sell off. Deregulating our power grid was was probably the culprit but we don't have to accept this new power plant, all the negative impacts, and this possible national security threat. What's next? Are we going to privatize the highway system, sell it to an unscrupulous company and then watch that company sell it off to foreign interests?  Are we going to privatize our National and/or State Public Parks, sell them to an unscrupulous company and then watch that company sell them off to foreign interests? When we pay a highway toll or park entrance fee, are those funds going to go to a foreign country? This argument is not a stretch when you consider what has happened with the Redondo power plant. We need to get back to basics in America. Let's work with businesses and individuals, to do economic good, that are not selling their utility assets to foreign interests. We can no longer economically afford to just save the jobs, we must also save jobs while not selling off the United States' infrastructure. At many times during the RB power plant debate, AES and its supporters, have wrapped themselves in the American Flag. Are they, behind the scenes, selling out to China? AES and its foreign influences have made a fatal error. They have been unable to stop our democratic ability to vote on Tuesday March 5th and have a say in whether or not we want the unnecessary additional pollution and increased foreign influence over our power grid? Support America, her economy, nurture her environment, and know it's YOUR RIGHT to Vote Yes on Measure A. Send a message to the California Energy Commission, AES, and foreign influences that we don't want their smoke stacks. Vote Yes on Measure A .
