The need for a new AES Redondo Power Plant is unfounded.

I just got back from the Imperial Valley Renewable Energy Summit

Imperial Valley currently exports over 500 mega-watts of renewable energy to surrounding communities. With the addition of new renewable energy projects, that are under development and upon construction, the area will produce up to 2,500 mega-watts of renewable energy. New transmission lines have recently been brought online (SDG&E transmission line from El Centro to San Diego) and more are proposed. Imperial Valley is poised to be a major contributor in helping California achieve its renewable energy portfolio standards of 33% renewable energy by 2020. Officials involved with Renewable Energy in Imperial County estimate the county/area could easily achieve production of 10,000 to 20,000 MW Of clean renewable energy, in the next few decades, with Solar, Wind Turbines and Geothermal. Memorandums of understanding are being signed and considered for tying into the S.O.N.G.S. transmission line infrastructure for easy distribution of this proposed future clean electricity for strategic smart grid enhancement. During the keynote address, State Assembly member V. Manuel Perez eloquently spoke about what's currently being done in the state legislature and what needs to be done to make these important, realistic, and achievable renewable energy goals a reality. Imperial County has a high unemployment rate, however because of training opportunities in renewable energy careers, unemployment rates are decreasing with the infusion of renewable energy projects. I also learned that it appears "AES Solar" is no longer in existence?  I guess they decided to focus on more coal burning polluting power plants in China? Summary: Imperial County is just one County in California. Imagine what we can do with combining efforts in all the California Counties to achieve a surplus of clean renewable energy and ensuring more jobs and less expensive clean energy for future generations.
