It’s time to gear up for summer! Find everything you need for the beach season at Spyder Surf Fest this weekend. Grab a tote (there’ll be lots of freebees) and your list. Let’s see….sunglasses, board wax, bikinis, sunscreen….

Spyder Surfboards is celebrating 30 years in the South Bay and will again join forces with the city of Hermosa Beach and the Southern California Surf Industry for another exciting Legends of Surf Weekend. The weekend will kick off with B4BC’s (Boarding for Breast Cancer) Ladies of the Industry night on Thursday, April 4, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Spyder Surf Women’s Shop on Pier Plaza. In celebration of women and girls, join B4BC for light drinks, appetizers and a fun shopping experience with special discounts. On Friday, April 5, from 7 to 10 p.m., the Hermosa Beach Historical Society will present the eighth annual Surf Film Fest featuring the South Bay Premier of Done the new John Florence biography. Food, drinks, movies, live music and a silent auction with merchandise contributed by Spyder Surf will benefit the Hermosa Beach Historical Surfing Museum. A limited number of tickets are available for pre-sale at both Spyder Surf locations and at the door depending on availability. Rounding out the weekend of events will be the sixth annual Spyder Surf Fest on Saturday, April 6. Beginning at 11 a.m., the city of Hermosa Beach will induct new honoree Mike Doyle to the Surfers Walk of Fame in a Pier ceremony. From noon to 6 p.m. the stage east of Hermosa Avenue will feature the industry’s finest promotional teams and leaders. There will be free giveaways, interactive games, meet ‘n greets with star athletes of the surfing world and a killer band lineup. Cruise at the Beach returns to Ruby’s Diner in Redondo Beach on Friday, April 5! Open to the public, this free event happens every Friday night through October and features a gathering of vintage automobiles on display in the Ruby’s Diner parking lot from 4 to 8 p.m. Enthusiasts are encouraged to bring their hot rods, street rods and muscle cars and strut their stuff. A favorite with local car enthusiasts, this popular event has grown tremendously over the years and features vintage and classic cars from all over Southern California. The evening also features music, trivia, trophies and raffle. Ruby’s Diner is located at 245 North Harbor Drive in Redondo Beach. The Palos Verdes Ride for Habitat for Humanity takes place this Saturday, April 6. The annual event starts and finishes at the five-star Terranea Resort and begins at 6:30 a.m. rain or shine. This year, cyclists will have three spectacular routes to choose from including a special 50 mile route for expert riders. This is a ‘high quality’ experience ride and participation will be limited to 300 bicyclists. Registration for the event is $75 per rider and includes the ride, sag stops, t-shirt, goodie bag, 1 raffle ticket and a fun, relaxing post-ride celebration with music and great raffle prizes. Riders, guests and volunteers are invited to the post-ride celebration at Terranea Resort’s meadows for a delicious alfresco lunch. Purchases for lunch can be made prior to the event for $20 per person and can be purchased during the online registration process. Lunch will be available for purchase on the day of the ride for $25 per person. All registration, proceeds and fundraising monies benefit Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles and are tax deductible. For more information and online registration, visit the website.

Looking for an excuse to clean out your closet while giving to a worthy cause? Donate your professional clothing at the on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Community members are encouraged to drop off gently used professional clothing for women, men and veterans who are re-entering the workforce. Suggested donation items for both men and women include suits, slacks, dress shirts and dress shoes as well as women’s professional dresses and accessories. Plus sizes are also welcome. All clothing donated must be clean, in good condition and on hangers. The clothing drop off location will be in South Bay Galleria’s own retail space located next to the Lenscrafters store on Level 2 of the mall in the Nordstrom Wing. Designing Women South Bay volunteers will be available during the clothing drive to answers questions on interviewing and offer resume tips.
