Jackie's South Bay Weekend Guide

The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide is THE source for leisure activities and events happening throughout the South Bay!

Did anyone go out to see the cokers last night? What? You haven’t heard about the cokers landing in Redondo Harbor? The first two made landfall Monday and took over the streets last night on their way to the El Segundo Chevron Refinery. The movement of these massive objects will take place over the next two weeks and everything you need to know about it is right here: http://southbaybyjackie.com/coker-transport-schedule-february-20-february-27-march-6/.

LA Craft Beer Tours new South Bay shuttle service runs on the first and third Thursday of each month from 7-11:30 p.m.—that’s tonight, Thursday, Feb. 21. The route starts in El Segundo (Rock & Brews, El Segundo Brewing Company) and then heads south to Manhattan Beach (Brewco) Hermosa Beach (Hot’s Kitchen, Abigaile) and Redondo Beach (Select Beer Store) where it turns around for the return trip. The hop-on-hop-off shuttle is free and works on a first come, first served basis. Seating is limited but reserved seats are available for the whole evening at $10 per person. No driving, no parking, no hassles—it’s the only way to discover what’s on tap in the South Bay! For more information and reserved ticket purchase, visit the website at lacraftbeertours.com

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company will be staging a Tap Takeover at Select Beer Store & Tap Room on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 5 to 10 p.m. The Tap Takeover will feature a selection of beers from the popular Northern California brewery. It’s a great opportunity to taste, compare and learn about the different beers they produce. If you have any brew related questions, Sierra Nevada Beer Ambassador, Steve Grossman, will be on hand and happy to explain the various nuances of hops and such. While Sierra Nevada takes over the taps, local favorite, Wyatt’s BBQ, will be on site with an assortment of tasty dishes to complement all the fabulous beer. Dig into tri-tip and hot link sandwiches, baby back ribs, chicken, BBQ baked beans, roasted corn on the cob, Wyatt’s cheesy potatoes and strawberry spinach green salad while enjoying your beer of choice. This event very conveniently takes place the same night as the bi-monthly LA Craft Beer Tour of the South Bay. For more information, visit the website at selectbeerstore.com or call 310-540-1221. Select Beer Store is located at 1613 S. Pacific Coast Hwy. in Riviera Village in Redondo Beach.

This is the last weekend to catch Neil Simon’s Proposals at The Norris Center for the Performing Arts. A romantic story of tangled loves and lives, the dramatic comedy is one of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright’s latest works and runs through February 24. The shows are scheduled for February 22 through February 24, with 8 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Tickets cost $38 and may be purchased online at norriscenter.com, by phone at 310-544-0403 or in person at the box office. The Norris Theatre is located at 27570 Norris Center Drive in Rolling Hills Estates. The theatre is wheelchair accessible and free, covered parking is available.

If you have not been to Tapas & Vino yet, you are in for a treat! Andy is currently running a Not Just Tapas & Vino Campaign exclusively for our audience! Mention The South Bay Show or South Bay by Jackie and receive 25 percent off a lunch or brunch entrée. Or just tell them Jackie sent you! Tapas & Vino is located at 1729 S. Catalina Ave. in Redondo Beach. For more information, visit the website at tapasyvino.com or call 310-791-8200.

As always, check the calendar links and ‘Things to Do’ page on my website, southbaybyjackie.com, for details on these and other events throughout the South Bay.

On The South Bay Show this morning, our guest was Mark Lipps. Mark is running for a seat on the Manhattan Beach City Council in March. Don’t worry, if you missed it, you can listen to it here: http://southbaybyjackie.com/february-21-2013-mark-lipps-candidate-mb-city-council/.

Have a great South Bay weekend!
