Jackie's South Bay Weekend Guide

The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide is THE source for leisure activities and events happening throughout the South Bay!

This Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day, and it seems like every restaurant in town will be serving up their particular version of corned beef and cabbage. No kidding! The French (Dominique’s) are making it; the Brazilians (Sylvio’s) are making it; the Italians (Il Fornaio—call ahead) are making it; the Mexicans (Ortega 120) are making it; and even the Americans (Nelson’s) will be making it! It goes without saying, every Irish pub will be serving it, and I imagine Paul Hennessey will be up to his ears in it.

Dolce Vita Café is now offering dinner every Friday and Saturday night! Located in the heart of Riviera Village, this popular breakfast and lunch establishment presents diners with yet another delicious opportunity to meet, eat and be merry. Each weekend, proprietor and renowned chef Mario Martinoli will offer a prix fixe dinner selection alongside the new cafe menu which will feature appetizers, pasta, risotto, chicken and other specialties of the house. Martinoli recently remodeled the space and installed a new dining counter to complement the legendary ‘family tables.’ Dinner begins at 6 p.m. and family tables can accommodate six to eight guests. These dinners are extraordinarily popular and will book up quickly each week, so be sure to call and make a reservation. Additionally, guests may call ahead and place an order as these meals are also available to go. Dolce Vita Café is located at 1718 S. Catalina Ave. in Redondo Beach. For more information and reservations, visit the website at dolcevitacaferedondo.com or call 310-844-7462.

Hermosa Beach celebrates all things Irish at the 19th Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday. Sponsored by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce, the parade begins at 11 a.m. at the staging area near City Hall on Valley Drive. The route makes a left onto Pier Avenue and ends at the corner of Hermosa Avenue and 10th street. The Wearing of the Green is a time-honored tradition. Don’t be surprised to find yourself ordering corned beef and cabbage, savoring a pint of Guinness, singing Danny Boy and kissing perfect strangers. Hop on over to South Bay Galleria for a visit with the Easter Bunny! South Bay Galleria welcomes the Easter Bunny for the 2013 Easter season with a special event on Saturday, March 16, starting at 10 a.m. The event will kick off the season with Easter Bunny photos, which will be available from the day of the event through March 30. This year for the first time, the Galleria will introduce new green screen technology which will be integrated into the Easter Bunny photo set to make holiday photos even more memorable. The event takes place in the South Bay Galleria food court and will feature a free McDonalds breakfast and free gift for the first 300 children (ages 2-10) to arrive. Free entertainment, including balloon artists and face painters will be on hand as well. The photo sessions will be available Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. Photo packages start at $13.95 and each child who visits the Easter Bunny will receive a free gift. Big congrats to you Jeff. Please fill us in (Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach and Marina Hotel andRead More Visitors Bureau) on the hotel shuttle. Also, how do we get Riviera Village's newest hit, Rock N Brew to be called Redondo Beach vs. Torrance??

Jeff, I am so pleased that you will be representing the residents of District 1 for the next fourRead More years.

Congrats to the boys and girls baseball/softball teams, showing the Redondo strength of body andRead More mind! Reading all sorts of good things about your teams! Great going players and coaches from the Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach and Marina Hotel staff!

Mary, I read your posts throughout the Measure A campaign. You may want to re-read your posts whenRead More you cast stones about "dividing a city". There wasn't much substantiation to any of your posts-- mostly just attacks on Jim Light. Do Aspel and Ginsburg condone this sort of behavior since you are such a strong voice for them?
Jim Light April 28, 2013 at 03:41 pm
http://www.prado2013.com/ Voters should read this before casting their ballot. Dianne Prado,Read More former District 1 candidate, exposes the electioneering, intimidation and cronyism of this campaign.

Perhaps we should just turn our heads and let the City Council violate the law. Is that what youRead More would do Mr H? The City Charter is the law of Redondo. The Council chose knowingly to violate it. When the judge found them in violation, the same Council doubled the costs with a frivolous appeal. This time three judges threw it out. Had the Council followed the Charter, there would be zero costs. If you want to hold anyone accountable, it should be those who cast the vote to violate the City Charter and disenfranchise the voters of Redondo. You should not hold me and the over 200 residents who contributed to the lawsuit to uphold the City Charter responsible for the Council's illegal action.

We are still waiting for someone -- perhaps the author of this post -- to make a coherent,Read More fact-based argument in favor of Mr. Diels. With all due respect, conclusory hopes and dreams of "reform" will not get 'er done in the face of Mr. Diels' voting record as City Councilman. Thankfully, one good thing has come of the author's blog post. The facts and blog posts have vindicated the honesty and integrity of the campaigns run by Dawn Esser and Chris Cagle, against a baseless attack by Mrs. Diels. If I had a magic mand, I would wave it and change the City Charter so that Dawn and Chris could share the position of Treasurer.

Mr. Azouz: Thank you. I am glad some neighbors find value in what I do, but more importantly IRead More respect the fact that you take the time to do your own homework. If you have expertise in a particular area that can benefit the City, feel free to contact me off line. That goes for anyone. After the election, I have a "big idea" that I want to promote for our City. When Bill Brand and Steve Aspel both agree that my idea is promising, then I think we are on the right track. I'll be curious to learn what the City Manager has to say.
