The City of Redondo Beach hosts Summer Family Films under the Stars throughout the month of August. Every Friday evening, Alta Vista Park will be transformed into an outdoor theater for screenings of family-friendly movies. The movie starts at dusk and this Friday, August 23rd features a screening of Monkey Business. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets and whatever you do, don’t forget the popcorn! These screenings are very popular so you’ll want to arrive early to claim a prime viewing location. This event is free and open to the public. The City of Manhattan Beach, in partnership with IMG Worldwide, is proud to present the 53rd Annual Manhattan Beach Open. The largest volleyball tournament on the AVP tour, the event will take place Friday, August 23rd through Sunday, August 25th. The Manhattan Beach Open is the only professional volleyball tournament in which amateurs are able to ‘place into’ the event through pre-qualifying rounds. The tournament began in 1960 as an amateur event and is now part of the professional volleyball player’s tour. The event draws an estimated 60,000 people each year. Winners of the tournament are memorialized with bronze volleyball-shaped plaques in the Volleyball Walk of Fame which spans the length of the Manhattan Beach Pier. The El Segundo Police Officers Association presents the 16th Annual Main Street Car Show. The free event will take place on Saturday, August 24th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 100 to 500 blocks of Main Street. The Main Street Car Show is an annual affair which typically features over 300 classic, vintage and newer model show cars. The event features a live band, a raffle with some great prizes and will showcase the wonderful restaurants and businesses that call downtown El Segundo home. The proceeds from the show are utilized to support many worthwhile causes throughout the community such as Fueled by the Fallen, the El Segundo Education Foundation and C.A.S.E. General admission tickets are sold out for this event already but there are still VIP tickets ($350) available as well as preferred parking passes. Trump National Golf Club is proud to present the 5th Annual Wine & Beer Festival on Sunday, August 25th. Presented by Fiat of Los Angeles and Fiat of Puente Hills, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy.
