Jackie's South Bay Weekend Guide for February 20, 2014

We all know the South Bay is a wonderful place to live, work and play but on occasion, things happen….

For those of you that didn’t read about it on Facebook, I attended my Neighborhood Watch meeting a couple of nights ago. In the middle of the meeting, we heard a woman screaming and all six police officers in attendance ran outside and caught a guy assaulting a woman right in front of the home we were meeting in – I think he was trying to take her cell phone. It may have been the quickest arrest on record and how he didn’t see the cruisers is beyond me…. a shoe-in for the Darwin Awards. Thank you, officers!

Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach hosts a monthly Wine Academy on the third Thursday of each month, that’s tonight, Thursday, February 20. Wine loving friends can gather to socialize, taste and learn from experts about new wines in a relaxed, fun, atmosphere. This popular event is open to the public and runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and offers wine lovers an opportunity to enjoy an intimate, casual, wine-centric social gathering. This month’s academy features Duckhorn Vineyards. Well-priced at $25 per person in advance, $35 at the door, the Wine Academy features expert, interactive presentations of exceptional wines, boutique and/or limited production wines, along with tantalizing wine-paired hors d’oeuvres prepared by Executive Chef Chris Garasic.
