Jackie's South Bay Weekend Guide for July 11, 2013

Most of the summer concert series have begun, so every weekend there will be free music somewhere in the South Bay! For complete concert listings and other ongoing events, be sure to visit my website.

This season, Shakespeare by the Sea presents two brand new productions staged at venues throughout the South Bay. Performances of All’s Well That Ends Well and King John will take place during July and the first week in August. The first local performance of King John takes place tonight, Thursday, July 11 at 7 p.m. at Terrenea Resort. These performances are free and open to the public. So grab a few lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic basket and settle in for a theater production by the greatest playwright of all time. The South Bay Greek Festival, an annual tradition since 1964, kicks off on Friday, July 12 and runs through Sunday, July 14. All things Greek will be featured at this popular South Bay event: music, dancing, games for the kids and food….lots and lots of fabulous food. Proudly sponsored by St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, admission donations are only $2 for adults, $1 for seniors and free for kids under 12 years old or you can visit the website at http://sbgreekfestival.com/ and receive a FREE admission coupon! The South Bay Greek Festival takes place at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox church located at 722 Knob Hill between Prospect Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway in Redondo Beach. The Redondo Beach Historical Society presents the 2013 Biennial Historic Homes Tour on Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Society has been hosting home tours since 1982 as part of the City’s 90th Birthday Celebration. The 2013 Tour will feature 7 to 10 homes and/or commercial buildings, a bake sale, an art show, valuable discounts for local businesses and more. This year’s tour begins at Heritage Court (298 Flagler Lane) or Christ Episcopal Church (408 South Broadway). Both locations will have tour booklets and volunteers to answer any questions. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 day of the event – no tickets will be sold after 3 p.m. on the day of the tour. On tour day, advance ticket-holders will need to exchange their tickets for a tour booklet (the booklet is the only ticket that will be honored at the various locations). Dominique’s Kitchen has partnered with Palos Verdes Estates winemaker Steve Arrowood of Montemar for a Winemaker Dinner on Monday, July 15 at 7 p.m. The menu will feature carefully selected pairings by the chef and specialty dishes not regularly available on the menu. Guests will hear from the winemaker during each course of this intimate dinner. There will be one seating only for 50 guests. Reservations are required and this event is expected to sell out. Restaurant Week is back and it’s time to DineLA! DineLA Restaurant Week is a bi-annual dining event established to introduce diners to the extensive assortment of restaurants in neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles County. DineLA Summer Restaurant Week takes place over 12 consecutive days and runs from July 15 through July 26. Walk-ins are welcome but there is no guarantee they can be accommodated. This is a great opportunity to sample something different and it’s sure to whet your appetite without emptying your wallet!
