Jackie's South Bay Weekend Guide for November 28, 2013

Happy Thanksgiving everybody and Happy Chanukah to the tribe!

It’s time to sit back and take stock of all the things we have to be thankful for - our health, family, friends, achievements, lessons learned and good times - and I hope you all find yourselves surrounded by loved ones over the holiday weekend. (I’m sitting here trying to work while my sisters, mom, husband, nieces, nephews and in-laws do their very best to distract me!)

The City of Torrance Community Services Department invites the entire family to participate in the 34th Annual Harry Sutter Memorial Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot Fun Run. This three-mile fun run will begin at 8 a.m. this Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 28. The start and finish line is at the Sam’s Club parking lot at the Torrance Crossroads Center located at 2601 Skypark Drive in Torrance. After the fun run, there will be a post-run prize drawing for mountain bikes, dinner vouchers, gym memberships and many other outstanding prizes. Keeping with the spirit of the season, a food drive will collect canned items for distribution to disadvantaged South Bay families. All registered participants will receive a commemorative Turkey Trot shirt. For additional information and online registration, visit the website at http://www.torranceca.gov/Parks/20996.htm.

Taking place for over 40 years, the Sleepy Hollow Christmas Lights Extravaganza (also known as Candy Cane Lane) is one of the largest holiday decoration displays in the country.
