Jackie's South Bay Weekend Guide for September 26, 2013

Did anyone notice a chill in the air this morning? That’s right, Autumn has arrived and it’s going to be a busy season here in the South Bay with a variety of fabulous events to look forward to.

Join Total Wine & More for an exploration of seasonal beers at the Autumn Equinox Beer Class. On Thursday, September 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., break out the lederhosen and experience a taste of Fall at this one-of-a-kind beer class, featuring all the newly released Autumn brews such as Ocktoberfest Lagers and Pumpkin Ales. The City of Gardena presents the fourth annual Food, Wine & Cigar Festival on Saturday, September 28. The event takes place from noon to 6 p.m. on the front lawn of Gardena City Hall with over eighty participating food, wine, cigar and other retail vendors. Attendees will enjoy a raffle and silent auction, musical entertainment, a cigar lounge and food and wine tasting coupons available for purchase. The festival features live entertainment by Kim Waters, Phil Berry and Andre Delano. There are three ticket options: $60 VIP Admission with table seating and wine vouchers, $30 Assigned Admission with assigned seating and $20 general Admission. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Gardena Senior Citizen’s Day Care Center and Alzheimer’s Clinic. The El Segundo Kiwanis Club presents the 37 Annual Richmond Street Fair on Saturday, September 28 from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. Expect five big blocks of fun with arts & crafts, rides, live entertainment, beer garden, music, dancing, raffle prizes and more. El Segundo has a burgeoning food scene and local restaurants will be featuring the finest offerings from their kitchens as well as vendors from all over Southern California. The Richmond Street Fair is located on Richmond Street in Downtown El Segundo. The Fair will take place in the 100, 200, and 300 blocks of Richmond Street and the west 100 and 200 blocks of Grand and Franklin Avenues. September is National Yoga Awareness Month and Terranea Resort is partnering with LA Yoga and Find Bliss Magazine to host what is anticipated to be Los Angeles’ largest outdoor yoga gathering on Sunday, September 29. In addition to the special yoga day, Terranea will be offering complimentary yoga classes at the resort throughout the month. Seasoned yogis and beginners are invited to participate in the day, which will include yoga on the 16,000-square-foot oceanfront Palos Verdes Meadow, led by Terranea’s fitness experts. Golden Heart Ranch presents the Golden Heart Race – An Urban Adventure on Sunday, September 29. The race is an exciting, urban scavenger hunt through the heart of Redondo Beach. Pull together a team, grab your ‘Rules of the Road’ and get ready to be challenged! At registration, each team of 4 to 6 people will receive their first clue and then the fun begins, following one clue to get to the next. Be prepared to face a series of obstacles, puzzles and clues. Check-in is from 12 to 12:45 p.m. with the race beginning promptly at 1 p.m. The registration fee is $75 per person and  anyone over the age of 18 can participate. Participants should bring a digital camera. After the race, Golden Heart Ranch will host a Finish Line Party in the beautiful Bay Side Ballroom at the Portofino Hotel. Cancer Support Community of Redondo Beach presents the 11 annual Girl’s Night Out Fun-Raiser. The three night event takes place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, October 1 through October 3 at The Comedy & Magic Club. Reservations are now being taken for this just-for-ladies event that celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness with an evening of fun and humor. Festivities begin each night at 5:30 p.m. with the opening of the bar and silent auction, followed by dinner, live auction, fabulous show, world class line-up of top comedians, raffle and lots of laughs. Opening night features the second annual Rock Your Pink costume contest. Tickets are $95 per person. Proceeds from this event will help fund free cancer support groups at CSC-RB.
