Saturday, September 21 is the 29th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day, a yearly beach and inland waterway effort to eliminate waste.

California Coastal Cleanup Day was first organized in 1985 by the California Coastal Commission. Last year, over 65,000 volunteers removed almost 770,000 pounds of trash from beaches, rivers and lakes throughout the state.
Coastal Cleanup Day is about much more than picking up trash. It’s a chance for Californians to join people around the world in expressing their respect for our oceans and waterways. It’s an opportunity for the community to demonstrate its desire for clean water and healthy marine life. It’s a moment to share with one’s neighbors, family, and friends, coming together to accomplish something vital and worthy on behalf of our environment.*

Heal the Bay will be organizing the South Bay effort and there are cleanup sites from El Segundo to Rolling Hills.
The cleanup takes place between 9:00 am and noon.
