Local Kid Chefs to Appear on Food Network

Cole Malouin and Jack Witherspoon will appear on Food Network show Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off.

Redondo Beach child chefs Cole Malouin and Jack Witherspoon will make their Food Network debut Sunday with the premiere of Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off.

Cole and Jack, both 13, are two of eight "kid chefs" who will compete for their own web series on FoodNetwork.com.

On each of the four episodes, the contestants will "participate in a pop quiz crafted to highlight their talents in the kitchen, followed by a classroom mentoring session with Rachael (Ray) and Guy (Fieri), and culminating in the creation of a menu plan for the Cook-Off," according to a news release from the Food Network.

The kid chefs will receive a report card after each challenge, and the top competitor of each episode will win a prize. Upon the completion of the series, the chef with the highest overall score will win his or her own web series.

The two chefs have different culinary styles, according to the television show's website.

"Cole likes to combine his appreciation for science with his love of cooking," according to his mini-biography on FoodNetwork.com. "From an early age, he has loved to experiment with new ingredients, tools and techniques … He prefers adultlike flavors to that of what most kids prefer: sweets and candy."

Jack, on the other hand, specializes in comfort food with a twist. He learned to cook  by watching Food Network while undergoing treatment for childhood leukemia. So far, he's raised more than $100,000 for pediatric leukemia research.

Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off premieres on the Food Network at 8 p.m. Pacific Time on Sunday.
