RBPD to Host 2nd Annual Dog Costume Contest
Proceeds from the costume contest will benefit the Redondo Beach Police Department's Domestic Violence Victims Advocacy Program.
Costumed canines will take the stage Saturday at the Redondo Beach Police Department's second annual dog costume contest at the city's civic center, according to a news release from the Redondo Beach Police Department.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the RBPD's Domestic Violence Victims Advocacy Program, which offers support to the victims of domestic violence and their families.
"The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about the connection linking animal abuse and domestic violence," according to the news release.

Last year's contest featured more than a dozen dogs dressed as pumpkins, super heroes, Star Wars characters and more. First-, second- and third-place awards were given for the scariest, funniest and most creative costumes.
The cost to enter is a $10 suggested donation at the door. All dogs must be kept on a non-retractable leash and be well-socialized, and their owners must be able to show proof the dog has a current rabies vaccination.

Registration begins at 2 p.m. for the event, which is scheduled for 2:30-4:30 p.m.
The Lovejoy Foundation will also have dogs available for adoption.
