The Redondo Beach Veterans Memorial Task Force will host an informal ceremony 9 a.m. Saturday at to on behalf of the Kimose Family.
Randy, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, and Kathy Kimose have lived in Redondo Beach since 1975, according to a biography sent to reporters by retired Lt. Col. Tom Lasser. Their son, Nick, is also in the Coast Guard. A petty officer second class, he is currently stationed at Terminal Island.
The family's other two children, Kirsten and Katie, teach fourth grade and study sports management, respectively.
The Coast Guard pyramid is one of five surrounding the memorial at Veterans Park, one for each branch of the armed services—Army, sponsored by Northrop Grumman; Navy, sponsored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe; Air Force, sponsored by the Air Force Association; Marine Corps; and Coast Guard. With the Kimose family’s gift, the Marine Corps pyramid is the only one lacking a sponsor.
