Weekend Planner: Salute to Veterans

Celebrate Veterans Day at the Redondo Beach ceremony and at the Ovation performance in Hermosa Beach. We've also got a beer tasting, a drum circle and more!

Where and when: Veterans Park, 309 Esplanade, Redondo Beach; Friday, 1 p.m.

Why go: Honor our local veterans and celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Redondo Beach Veteran's Memorial. The barbecue, sponsored by the , takes place after the service.

Price: Service is free; $5 for barbecue

Where and when: Whole Foods Market, 405 N. Pacific Coast Hwy., Redondo Beach; Friday, 6:30 p.m.

Why go: Figure out which beers will be the perfect picks for your holiday dinners. This tasting also pairs beers with meats, so you know what works best. Must be 21 or older to attend.

Price: $5

Where and when: Hermosa Beach Pier 1 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach; Saturday, 7 a.m.

Why go: Take a morning run through the sand from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Once the run's over, stay for the party and prizes.

Price: $35

Where and when: Second-floor meeting room, Redondo Beach Main Library, 303 N. Pacific Coast Hwy., Redondo Beach; Saturday, 9 a.m.

Why go: November is National Novel Writing Month, when thousands of aspiring novelists attempt to write a 50,000-word story before Dec. 1. Join the Redondo Beach Library on Saturday for a day full of inspiration.

Price: Free

Where and when: Green Roast Coffee, 1300 S. Pacific Coast Hwy., Redondo Beach; Saturday, 9:30 a.m.

Why go: Meet at Redondo Beach's own organic coffee shop for coffee and breakfast treats before heading down to the beach for an hour or two of cleanup.

Price: Free

Where and when: Hermosa Beach Playhouse, 710 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach; Saturday, 8 p.m.

Why go: Dancers, musicians, actors and others will take to the stage to honor veterans of the United States military. A reception with the cast will follow the performance.

Price: $15

Where and when: Torrance Beach, 402 Paseo de la Playa, Redondo Beach; Sunday, 1 p.m.

Why go: Join this family-friendly drum circle and rhythm jam held on the second Sunday of each month. Bring your own drum or percussion instrument, or share with someone.

Price: Free

Where and when: Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Redondo Beach; Sunday, 7 p.m.

Why go: Listen to award-winning and internationally renowned duo Hapa's Hawaiian sounds.
