Carlos Lopez, a resident of Redondo Beach who was a firefighter and paramedic with the Hermosa Beach Fire Department, died Tuesday.

A Redondo Beach resident who was a firefighter and paramedic in Hermosa Beach died Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Carlos Lopez, 36, was set to represent Hermosa Beach this weekend at the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge, according to The Beach Reporter. Another firefighter will run in his place, and the fire department will also be collecting donations to help the Lopez family.

The newspaper also ran an interview with Lopez that was conducted last week in preparation for the challenge.

In June, the firefighter-paramedic earned some media attention after he rushed to the aid of a man who was stabbed outside a Belmont Shore eatery. Lopez was off-duty at the time of the incident.
