Paddle-Out to Celebrate Life of Bob Meistrell

Legendary waterman Bob Meistrell, co-founder of Body Glove, died on Fathers Day.

The life of Body Glove co-founder Bob Meistrell will be celebrated with a paddle-out ceremony and a reception at Seaside Lagoon in Redondo Beach on Sunday, Sept. 15, according to a news release from Body Glove International.

Meistrell, who with his brother Bill designed the first commercially viable wetsuit, died June 16 at the beginning of the Rock 2 Rock Paddleboard Race.

Body Glove International released the following statement about Meistrell:

"Bob will be remembered by his countless contributions to his community including The Switzer Center, Reef Check and Ocean Futures Society. (He) was also passionate about giving to charity and would charter his boat, The Disappearance, to raise money for numerous organizations including over 50 local charities. But most importantly he will be remembered as a family man, who put his family before everything and made every person feel as (though) they were his favorite."

The paddle-out in Meistrell's honor will be held south of the Redondo Beach Pier at 9 a.m. The reception at Seaside Lagoon, hosted by the Meistrell family, will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Meistrell is survived by his wife, Patty; his sons Robbie, Ronnie and Randy; grandchildren Tracey, Matt, Jamie, Nick, Kenna, Robert, Rhoni, Randi and Makayla; and great-grandchildren Mia and Maddox.
