Lopez had planned to compete in the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge on Saturday; fellow Hermosa Beach firefighters ran in his place, and the entire event was dedicated to his memory.
Love a Hero—a charity honoring fallen firefighters, soldiers and police officers—has set up a website where people can donate money to help Lopez's family. Fellow firefighters also passed around a boot at this weekend's event.
