In the recent months, I have been getting many massage therapists asking for more work. I probably receive 10 resumes per week from massage therapists asking for lower rates just so they can make some money to support themselves.
We are all aware of the current problems in health care and the uncertainty this subject brings to all Americans.
A majority of massage therapists are having trouble making ends meet because of many reasons.
One of the reasons is lower reimbursements from insurance companies. Massage therapists were once accustomed to receiving a decent hourly rate for their services , and when insurances paid well, doctor offices could pay the therapist what they deserved. Now, with lower reimbursements, doctor offices are not able to cover the cost. This forces the patient to pay more out of pocket, which is difficult in these economic times. Even though the patient may require the treatment to get well, they will deny themselves the care due to finances.
This leads into the next reason why massage therapists struggle. They go through school, get licensed, and go out into the real world without the knowledge to market or create business. Doctors, chiropractors, and dentist hire expensive consultant companies who help with business management and marketing. Massage Therapists do not have many options in this area which can keep them from growing.
I owe much of my success to my consultants who have guided me into the right direction.
I believe if massage therapists had the same access to the business management information doctors receive, they would not need to struggle so much.
I always enjoy helping others, it is my passion. If there are massage therapists in the South Bay who would like help increasing business, please do not hesitate to contact me.
