City Council Agenda on Moratorium against new power plant

To the Hon. City Clerk, Mayor, and City Council:

My wife, my three children and I support the moratorium and oppose a new power plant for at least 5 reasons:

1.  Fact: Studies demonstrate that power is not needed by AES Redondo Beach -- not now or in the future -- to maintain power grid reliability.

2.  Opinion: Building a new power plant in Redondo Beach would be the worst imaginable use of scarce coastal land in the history of California.

3.  Fact: AES does not pay its fair share of taxes for the privilege of making energy and dumping its toxic waste on our properties and in our bodies.

4.  Fact: Allowing other businesses to buy AES land would maximize the economic use of coastal land, resulting in a better standard of living for the residents and greater tax revenues to the City of Redondo Beach over the next 50 years.

5.  Fact: Nothing can be done to remediate the health risk and harm from poison particulates from AES.  Young children, senior citizens, and asthmatics would suffer the most. That is a sad medical fact, and how can you put a price tag on that?

I urge the Hon. Mayor and City Council to continue to stand in unison, and enact a moratorium against a new power plant.  I am ready to volunteer in any capacity that our city leaders see fit.

You may have heard AES paid marketing consultants and "astroturf" spokespeople prattle on about so-called property rights and constitutional rights.   Never mind them.  Legally speaking, their arguments are bunk.  And that is putting it mildly.  We, the residents of Redondo Beach, mean nothing to the shareholders of AES. They call us "externalities".

Please add my support to the proposed moratorium against a new powerplant.

Respectfully yours,
