$25,000 Reward Offered in Galleria Stabbing

A $25,000 reward is being offered in exchange for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the man who stabbed two teens in front of AMC Theaters inside the South Bay Galleria on Dec. 29, the Redondo Beach Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced Thursday morning in a news conference.

"Violent crime against any individual is horrible, but it's particularly gut-wrenching when it affects our young people," said Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin when he announced the reward. "It's critical that we put a stop to this—that we find the perpetrator of this crime and bring swift justice."

The FBI made the reward possible, according to Redondo police Lt. Joe Hoffman. "Having the support of the FBI in this case makes resources available to us in the investigation that we might otherwise not have immediate access to."

Police released a sketch of the suspect at the beginning of January. He is described as a 40- to 50-year-old tall black man with a medium build. He had a beard and a mustache that may have been graying, and he was possibly wearing prescription glasses. He was wearing a fatigue-type jacket that may have been green and brown, blue jeans, a black T-shirt and a dark-colored beanie.

In addition to announcing the establishment of a reward Tuesday, police also released additional surveillance video clips. The first one, shot at Champs, shows the suspect following a young couple—not the victims—into the store, while the second, which is from Johnny Rockets, shows the suspect walking across the dining area of the food court. Both Champs and Johnny Rockets are on the third floor of the mall.

The two clips were shot within the 10 minutes preceding the attack, Hoffman said. The surveillance footaged released at the beginning of the month showed the suspect walking away just moments after the attack.
