7-Eleven Robbed; Suspects Crash in PV

Police are searching for two people who robbed a Redondo Beach 7-Eleven this morning.

Editor's note: This story has been updated to clarify that the house-to-house portion of the search was called off.

Two people suspected of robbing a South Redondo Beach 7-Eleven eluded capture this morning after they crashed their motorcycle in Palos Verdes Estates.

The crime occurred about 3:30 a.m. at the 7-Eleven at 226 S. Prospect Ave., said Redondo Beach police Sgt. Shawn Freeman.

One person, wearing a mask, robbed the business of about $250 while wielding what may have been a replica handgun, Freeman said.

Officers sent to the crime scene saw a motorcycle speeding off with two people on it and its lights off, Freeman said, adding that they chased it.

The motorcycle crashed at the intersection of Palos Verdes Drive North and Via Valmonte in Palos Verdes Estates, and the pair ran off. Officers searched the area, aided by police dogs and helicopters, but the suspects eluded them and the house-to-house portion of the search was called off about 7:20 a.m., Freeman said.

Police found a backpack containing money that was taken from the store, along with a replica handgun similar to a "gun" that was described by the crime victim, Freeman said. Anyone knowing more about the case was urged to call police at 310-937-6685.

That might explain the helicopters hovering over that area right now!

Thank you for the info! I've updated the story to clarify that the house-to-house search was called off—not the entire search.

ANOTHER violent gun crime in South Redondo. When is the city going to stop shrinking the police department and hire some cops!

When is the hiring of more cops EVER the BEST answer to a real problem?...

The VIN/License Plate on the motorcycle should lead right to the perpetrators of this crime.
