Blotter: Watch for Phony Construction Workers

The following information was supplied by the Redondo Beach Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following information is from the Redondo Beach Police Department's Part I Crime Recap news release covering reports received Oct. 18-23.

Street robbery

A man approached his victim from behind near the intersection of Vista del Mar and Catalina Avenue on Oct. 23. He snatched an iPhone with a case from the victim before running away. The thief was described as a 6-foot, 200-pound black man in his late teens.

On Oct. 22, a suspect armed with a handgun approached several people near the intersection of Huntington and Rindge lanes. One person gave the robber cash. The culprit—described as a 5-foot-7-inch, thin, 17-year-old black boy—fled on foot.

Commercial burglaries in Redondo Beach

Charlene Dix was arrested on suspicion of burglary Wednesday. Police believe she walked into an open business in the 1700 block of Hawthorne Boulevard, concealed merchandise and tried to leave without paying. No loss was reported as the items were recovered.

Two men walked into Total Wine & More on Hawthorne Boulevard on Monday evening and filled a shopping cart with alcohol, then left through the emergency exit. The culprits were described as two black men in their 30s.

A burglar got onto the Redondo Union High School campus at some point over the weekend and pried a desk drawer open to steal cash.

A man smashed the window of a closed business in the 500 block of South Catalina Avenue early Monday morning and stole cash and cigarettes. The culprit was described as a 6-foot, 185-pound white man.

Keyherra Green was arrested on suspicion of burglary last Friday. Police believe she walked into a business in the 1500 block of Hawthorne Boulevard and hid items in her purse. She also grabbed an item from the display rack and tried to get a refund for it, police said. She then left with the items concealed in her purse; however, they were recovered upon her arrest, police said.

Shuvonne Bishop was arrested on suspicion of burglary Oct. 24. Police believe she entered an open business in the 1400 block of Hawthorne Boulevard, concealed items in her purse and left without paying. No loss was reported as the items were recovered.

A man apparently dressed as a woman paid for a blouse Oct. 18 with a counterfeit $100 bill. He left with the item and change. Police believe the culprit is a 40-year-old, 5-foot-8-inch, 200-pound Hispanic man with long, straight, reddish-brown hair. He was dressed in women's clothing.

Residential burglaries in Redondo Beach

A resident of the 300 block of Avenue D was the victim of a distraction burglary last Saturday. Someone posed as a construction worker from the residence behind the victim's. He convinced the resident to accompany him to the backyard. While they were in the yard, a second person stole cash from the house. Police don't have a description of the second culprit; however, the phony construction worker was described as a 20-year-old, 6-foot, 180-pound white man wearing jeans and a dark shirt with the letters IND on it.

Someone entered a parking garage in the 500 block of the Esplanade at some point Oct. 19-24. The person entered an unlocked vehicle and drove it to a different part of the garage. The culprit also stole a suitcase with clothing and a cooler.

Two bicycles were stolen Oct. 22 from a parking garage in the 300 block of South Prospect Avenue.

Vehicle burglaries in Redondo Beach

Someone punched the driver's side door lock of a 2008 Jeep Liberty parked at the South Bay Galleria on Monday and stole two backpacks containing miscellaneous small items, a work ID, a knife, a cellphone and cash.

A culprit punched the driver's side door lock of a 2008 Chevrolet 1500 Express van parked in the 800 block of Serpentine on Oct. 23 and stole a computer monitor.

Stolen vehicles in Redondo Beach

Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Carson station on Tuesday recovered a silver 2002 Mitsubishi Montero that had been stolen earlier that day from the 400 block of North Broadway.

A blue 2003 Toyota Camry, New Jersey license plate No. G21ACU, was stolen from the 2400 block of Graham Street between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.

A brown/gold 200 Honda Accord, license No. 4KEH144, was stolen between Friday and Saturday from the 2400 block of Robinson Street.

A silver 1995 Acura Integra, license plate No. 5WEL493, was stolen between last Thursday evening and Friday morning from the 2200 block of Harriman Lane.

Deputies from the LASD Lakewood Station on Tuesday recovered a red 1992 Ford F-250 truck that was stolen Oct. 23-24 from the 200 block of North Juanita Avenue.

The San Bernardino Police Department on Tuesday recovered a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee stolen Aug. 25 from the 1400 block of South Catalina Avenue.
