Body Found off Redondo Beach

A man's body is discovered about five miles off the coast of Redondo Beach.

A man whose body was recovered from the ocean about five miles off the coast of Redondo Beach committed suicide, authorities said Monday.

The U.S. Coast Guard found the body after a report about 1:30 p.m. Sunday of a boat without anyone at the helm, according to Sgt. Brent Carlson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Marina del Rey Station.

The victim rented a boat from Fisherman Village in Marina del Rey around 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Carlson said. The victim's body was found floating not far from the rented boat, he said.

Investigators determined the death was a suicide, Deputy Kim Manatt of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said without elaboration.

The victim's name was being withheld pending family notification, said coroner's Lt. Joe Bale.
