Carjacking suspect nabbed in Redondo
On Saturday evening around 11:15 p.m., Redondo patrol officers learned of an attempted carjacking in Torrance via that department's radio frequency. The suspect was last seen westbound on foot from Torrance Boulevard and Wood Street. Moments later, Redondo police officers observed the person they believed could be the carjacker walking in the area of Torrance Boulevard and Francisca Avenue. They detailed the suspect and notified Torrance police, who made the arrest.
Stolen cars recovered
On Friday night around 9:21 p.m., an officer received a "stolen vehicle" hit from the automatic license plate reader (ALPR) mounted on the patrol car. The stolen vehicle was parked in the area of the 2000 block of Rockefeller Lane and unoccupied. Officers determined that the vehicle had been at this location at least 24 hours and recovered it, releasing it to its owner.
Redondo police made a similar discovery through the ALPR on Sunday morning around 10:46 a.m. This time the car reported as stolen was parked in the area of 5800 Pacific Coast Highway across the street from the Redondo Beach border in Torrance. The vehicle had been stolen on Nov. 20 in an area under the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers recovered the unoccupied vehicle and collected evidence.
