DUI Checkpoint Set for Saturday Night

The Redondo Beach Police Department has scheduled a driver's license and DUI checkpoint.

A DUI and driver's license checkpoint will take place Saturday night from 7 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the Redondo Beach Police Department.

The checkpoint will take place at an undisclosed location within the Redondo Beach city limits.

"Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment," according to the news release. "Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving."

Those caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs face jail, license suspension, insurance increases, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000, according to police.

Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
