Local Man Pleads Guilty in Child Porn Case

Richard Allen pleads guilty in a child pornography case in Virginia.

A Redondo Beach man is one of five to plead guilty in Virginia to one count of conspiring to receive, distribute, possess and access child pornography, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Monday.

Redondo Beach resident Richard Phillip Allen, 66, and eight other men were charged in an indictment unsealed Feb. 2, the DOJ said in a news release.

Allen received emails from another defendant that contained links to compressed files and attachments depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to court documents.

"According to information presented at (the) plea hearing, forensic analysis of each of the defendants' computers confirmed their involvement in the conspiracy, and some of the defendants were found to possess very large numbers of images and movies depicting the sexual abuse of children," the DOJ said.

The emails were sent between August 2010 and at least through November 2011.

As part of the guilty plea, Allen faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and lifetime supervised release. Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender.
