Andrew Drobot is accused of trying to set a car on fire in Riviera Village.

Charges are pending against a Torrance resident accused of lighting a car on fire in the Riviera Village area on Dec. 5, officials said.

Andrew Drobot, 23, was arrested after a nearly half-hour search that involved multiple police vehicles and a helicopter from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, according to Sgt. Shawn Freeman of the Redondo Beach Police Department. Drobot was found at about 10:45 p.m. hiding behind the public restrooms on the bike path south of Avenue I.

Police first received the call about a "subject that was trying to light a vehicle on fire" at 10:18 p.m., after the Riviera Village Holiday Stroll, Freeman told Patch.

Investigators are trying to determine Drobot's motive behind setting afire the vehicle parked in the 1700 block of the Esplanade, officials said.

The vehicle was not registered to Drobot.
