Fire fighters battled extensive boat fires in King Harbor Marina Thanksgiving evening, officials reported.
Fire fighters with the Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach fire departments responded to the fires around 6:51 p.m. A Harbor Patrol boat and 18 fire personnel responded to the "I" Dock and found two vessels well involved with fire spreading to adjacent boats, said Robert Rappaport, fire chief with the Redondo Beach Fire Department.
The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes. No injures were reported, Rappaport said.
The two boats, a power boat and sail boat, suffered heavy damage, while two additional boats suffered fire exposure damage. Initial assessments estimate a loss of $80,000. The cause is under investigation, Rappaport said.
