Photos: Friends Mourn Slain Women

Neighbors say Vicki Bergman and her daughter, Courtney Bergman, were the two women killed in an apartment on Rockefeller Lane.

Friends and neighbors of two women found dead Tuesday morning at an apartment in the 1900 block of Rockefeller Lane gathered that evening to say prayers and pay respects at a candlelight vigil.

Neighbors have identified the women as Vicki Bergman and her daughter, Courtney Bergman, who was either enrolled at or a recent graduate.

More than 75 people congregated at the corner of Rockefeller and Flagler lanes Tuesday night to light candles in the women's honor.

Neighbors told reporters that they were shaken—these are the second and third homicides in less than a week. Last week, police believe Margaret Ann Goldberg—who went by Peggy Duffy—was, Russell Scott Goldberg, during a three-hour standoff with highway patrol.

Capt. Jeff Hink of the said officers do not believe there is any connection between the two incidents.

Still, people are concerned.

"I would feel this is scary, if it didn't just happen last week down the street,"  Selena Padilla, who lives nearby on Prospect Avenue, told the Daily Breeze. "What's scary is we don't know who did it. It's Redondo Beach. You wouldn't expect this to happen here."

On Twitter, users expressed similar sentiments.

"I would be able to sleep a whole lot better if I knew Courtney Bergman (and) her mother's killer wasn't outside," wrote user @ToneeLocc3.

Police have identified Jonathan Scott Chacon, who was reportedly Courtney Bergman's boyfriend, as a person of interest in the slayings. He was last spotted in Orange County driving northbound on Interstate 5 at Alicia Parkway near Mission Viejo.

Anyone who encounters Chacon—described as a Hispanic male standing 5 feet 7 inches and weighing about 160 pounds with black hair and eyes—or sees his black 1996 Mustang convertible (license No. 6CQF458) is advised to call 911.

Otherwise, anyone with information on the slayings is asked to call Redondo Beach police at 310-937-6685, text 310-339-2362 or email crimetips@redondo.org.
