Police are looking for Russell Scott Goldberg in the death of a woman found Wednesday morning in an apartment on Agate Street, according to Redondo Beach Police Lt. Joe Hoffman.
Police identified the woman as Margaret "Peggy" Ann Goldberg, Russell Goldberg's ex-wife. Officers did not say how she died.
Officers found the body of Peggy Goldberg—who used the name Peggy Duffy—in an apartment at 1234 Agate St. around 9 a.m. after someone in New York called the police to check on her.
"I believe that this was an isolated incident, that the victim was specifically targeted," Hoffman said at a press conference Wednesday afternoon. He added it is "very possible" this is a domestic violence case.
Hoffman said Russell Goldberg, 49, is a suspect and owns a registered firearm. "We believe that he may be armed and dangerous," he said.
Goldberg was last seen in the South Bay area, Hoffman said.
Officers believe Goldberg is driving a 2007 green Saturn Vue with California license plate 6NAP316. The car has a yellow bumper sticker attached diagonally to the rear bumper.
Police described Goldberg as a white man with brown hair and brown eyes standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds.
Police distributed flyers with pictures of Goldberg's car aroung Agate Street. Neighbor Chanel Caprio said she has seen Goldberg's car "driving up and down" streets in the area. "I was like, 'Oh, I know that car. I've seen that car before,'" Caprio said.
At the scene, neighbors said the Goldbergs had two children—a boy and a girl—who are currently in police custody.
Anyone who encounters Goldberg should call 911, police said. Anyone with information as to his whereabouts should call the Police Department at 310-937-6685, text a message to 310-339-2362 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
