RBPD Officer Promoted to Sergeant

Sgt. Edward Jackson will become a patrol division supervisor upon completion of a training course.

The Redondo Beach Police Department has promoted another one of its own to the rank of sergeant.

Newly minted Sgt. Edward Jackson was promoted from the rank of officer, Chief Joe Leonardi announced Thursday in a news release. Jackson has been with the Redondo Beach Police Department for 22 years.

He began his law-enforcement career in Stockton, Calif. in 1980, then moved to work in Compton, Calif. in 1981, according to the release. While in Compton, he worked as a patrol officer, a canine handler, investigator and on other special assignments.

In Redondo, Jackson has been a community based officer, DARE officer, school resource officer, crisis negotiator and detective.

Jackson is married with three children and three grandchildren, according to the news release. Once he finishes training, he will be assigned as a patrol division supervisor.

Earlier this year, then-officers Jeff Mendence and Paul Ribitzki were promoted to the rank of sergeant.
