The Redondo Beach Police Department will close Pacific Coast Highway between Pearl and Sapphire streets Wednesday evening to investigate the Jan. 1 motorcycle crash that seriously injured a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department and his 11-year-old daughter.

The closure, during which police will survey the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway, Ruby Street and Guadalupe Avenue in South Redondo Beach, will last from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes like Prospect and Catalina avenues.

LAPD Detective Shaun King, 41, lost part of his leg in the New Year's Day crash, and his daughter Mackenzie suffered a compound fracture in her left leg.

Redondo Beach resident Jill Klausen, whose husband tended to King until paramedics arrived, plans to campaign for a protected left-turn signal to be installed at the intersection.

Witnesses of the crash are asked to call RBPD Traffic Investigator William Turner at 310-379-2477, extension 2721 or email him at bill.turner@redondo.org.
