The transient who led Redondo Beach Police Chief Joe Leonardi on a chase pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property and was sentenced to 60 days in jail Monday, Daily Breeze crime reporter Larry Altman reported on his Crime & Courts blog.
Morgan Wayne Walker, 36, was arrested July 5 after a brief pursuit that involved Leonardi hopping on Walker's abandoned bicycle.
After Walker was taken into custody by another officer, Leonardi retraced his steps and found a class ring from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo that had been reported stolen from a residence in Hermosa Beach, police said.
In addition to the 60 days he will serve in county jail, Walker will serve three years' probation, according to City Prosecutor Melanie Chavira.
