Suspect Charged in Fatal Bar Fight

Francisco "Frank" Cobarruvias Jr. is charged with one count of murder in connection with the beating death of Terie Colecchi outside Pats II Cocktails.

A man suspected of fatally beating a bouncer at in South Redondo Beach to death was officially charged Monday, the Daily Breeze reported.

Citing Deputy District Attorney Erica Jerez, Breeze reporter Larry Altman said Francisco "Frank" Cobarruvias Jr., 35, to Redondo Beach police last Thursday, faces one count of murder. He was set to be arraigned Monday.

Cobarruvias is accused of beating Torrance resident Terie Colecchi, 49, to death outside the South Redondo Beach bar on June 2 after Colecchi denied him and another man entry shortly before closing time, police said. Witnesses called 911 and Colecchi was transported to Harbor General Hospital, where he died.

Cobarruvias' lawyer has said this is a case of mistaken identity.

Bartenders at Pats II Cocktails told Easy Reader reporter Chelsea Sektnan that Cobarruvias was a regular at the bar.

Another man who police believe was involved in the beating, Alejandro Avina, 30, of Carson, was pending further investigation, Sgt. Shawn Freeman said at the time.

I could be wrong but this guy does not look like a killer
Jeff June 12, 2012 at 12:42 AM
You said it....you're wrong. What does a killer look like? Old ladies, housewives, priests, and children have all been arrested and convicted for murders. A killer doesn't have a "look". The only thing they have in common is the evil gene they all got at conception, that's it.
Jeff June 12, 2012 at 12:46 AM
...and i'm not sure if you wear glasses or not but just after having seen this guys pic he certainly DOES fit the "look" you were referring to in your post. If that guy doesn't fit the description of what most people would call a killer i don't know who would.

This man, who drank in this bar regualarly was mad he couldn't get in after last call. He then proceeded to beat, knock down and then stomp Tere resulting in injures that died from He called the bar the next day and asked how Tere was. After finding out he died he fled for 7 days before turning himself in . Tell is that not a killer?

It is a horrible story. Violence is never the answer!
Jennifer Malara June 12, 2012 at 04:37 PM
This was an cowardly act. They didn't get their way so they stomped on him like 5 year old boys having a tantrum. Tere was doing his job. No bar allows you in after last call. I know Tere he would have been polite, respectful and most likely humorous. Frank knew him, been there before, even earlier that night. He should confess and do his sentence, but no he claims he wasnt there, the other one claims I was asleep. The lawyer will claim he was a racist, he said something racist. You watch... People use the race card whenever they can't defend themselves for their actions.

i know cisco and he's a god fearing individual ,Yes he 's a occasional drinker amongst a regular secular fellow like many of us,Cisco isnt tall nor weight lifting buff, but one thing i do know is he can throw punches many men wish they could ,i can only speak for cisco not his aquantance ,The unfortunate deceased individual had too have underlying health problems leaving susceptibe to death ,it doesnt help that 1 month prior too this event cisco found his wife dead from a overdose, which made things cross my incessant mind did terry sell drugs ,if that be the case wouldnt 99% of us beat the breath of the breed that takes lifes and minds of our precious sisters and brothers,Cisco is a good man just made a not so wise choice ,and was with a dumb ass who kick when the other is defensless,

Really, your going to go to "blame the victim" ? He didn't have to have a underlining health issues, just several good kicks and stomps on your head could kill someone. I'm sorry that Franks wife died of a overdose that is very sad but why would you put that out there? Your insinuating that "Tere might have in someway deserved what happened to him, that maybe he was a bad guy" Tere didn't sell drugs, he was a hard working ,good sweet man, who would help anyone , listen to your woes and treat you with respect who was just doing his job. He didn't deserve what happened to him and your friend is responsible. His actions caused a lot of pain to Tere's son ,his family, his friends and he also hurt his own family and friends. Nothing good came out of this horrible day but please don't try to slander the victim because your friend is the defendant.

I'm appalled that there is no new info on Terie's MURDER...
Michele February 24, 2013 at 10:07 AM
That was MY sister that died of the overdose. They weren't married. He was and is a low life piece of garbage that used to beat her. He is nothing but scum and I wish he would rot away and get raped and beaten every single day he is in jail for what he put my sister through.

And poor Teri and his family... God rest his soul....
Jennifer Malara February 24, 2013 at 10:22 PM
Michele, I am sorry for the loss of your sister. May she rest in peace. This was a cowardly act simplify because Teri wouldn't let them back in (they were there earlier) because last call was over. I hate that fact that his friend is trying to push the blame on Teri somehow. (Maybe he had underling health issues, maybe he was a drug dealer and he was mourning his wife) I will tell you, I knew Teri and he was a good man who was just doing his job. He was kind to Frank, listened to his sorrows and Frank and his friend made the decision that they were going to kick and stomp on him because he wouldn't let them in. The bar was closing. He did not deserve this and he is at no fault for it.
