Valentine's Day Bandit Ruins Marriage Proposal

A thief ruins one couple's romantic Valentine's Day evening on the beach.

What was supposed to be a romantic Valentine's Day evening went very wrong for one couple in the South Bay, according to the Redondo Beach Police Department.

A man was proposing to his girlfriend on the beach on the evening of Feb. 14 when a bandit ran by and swiped the half-carat diamond engagement ring.

"A male black adult (came) up running behind him and (grabbed) the ring out of his hand and (kept) on running," police spokesman Sgt. Shawn Freeman told Patch.

The couple drove to the police station to report the robbery. They described the thief as a 5-foot-10-inch tall black man who weighed about 160 pounds.
