Woman OK After Car Hits Her

A car hits a woman as she's crossing Pacific Coast Highway at Diamond Street.

A 19-year-old woman is expected to be OK after a car hit her as she was crossing Pacific Coast Highway in South Redondo Beach on Friday afternoon.

The woman was in the crosswalk at about 1:15 p.m. when a driver turned from westbound Diamond Street onto northbound Pacific Coast Highway and struck her, according to Sgt. Rick Kochheim of the .

Kochheim said the woman's lower leg was injured, and she was transported to a nearby hospital.

The collision wasn't nearly as bad as another recent one at the same intersection, in which a , Kochheim noted. Ekbatani's left leg was later amputated below the leg.

Police temporarily closed northbound Pacific Coast Highway between Vincent and Carnelian streets, Kochheim said. Southbound traffic was unaffected.

The incident will be handed over to the police department's traffic unit for further investigation.
