Candidates Forum Scheduled for Monday

Candidates for Districts 1, 2 and 4, as well as mayoral candidates, will speak at a forum sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce on Monday afternoon.

The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce will host a forum Monday at City Hall where Redondo Beach residents can hear from candidates running to represent them in the city council and mayor's office.

The free forum will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. and will feature remarks from all candidates for District 1, District 2, District 4 and mayor. City Attorney Mike Webb, who is running unopposed in his bid for reelection, will also make a statement, after which residents are invited to speak personally with candidates at a reception.

Each candidate will speak for approximately 10 minutes.

Though the event will not be broadcast live, video of the forum will be made available at redondochamber.org afterward. Redondo Beach Patch will also live-blog the event.

Schedule:

  • 1-1:50 p.m.: District 1 candidates Kimberly Fine, Jeff Ginsburg, Jim Light, Dianne Prado
  • 2-2:35 p.m.: District 2 candidates Bill Brand (incumbent), Michael Jackson, Susan Kowalski
  • 2:45-3:35 p.m.: Mayoral candidates Steve Aspel, Pat Aust, Matt Kilroy, Eric Coleman
  • 3:45-4:20 p.m.: District 4 candidates Jan Jeffreys, Stephen Sammarco, Julian Stern

Not much point in attending the first hour if you live in District 1. Vote Jim Light. Not much point attending the mayoral candidates session as all are known quantities save one. Vote Eric Coleman.

Why was this time selected? It's in the middle of the business day. Are you expecting voters to take off work to attend?
DR January 14, 2013 at 05:09 pm
Stu, you must be joking...
Jim Light January 14, 2013 at 05:16 pm
I agree. I almost couldn't make it because of a business meeting.
Diane Naletich January 14, 2013 at 06:04 pm
Thanks for your validation, Jim.
How the heck are we supposed to be involved in city politics if we are working professionals? I find this highly frustrating.

It was a very good and informative forum. Thanks to the Chamber of Commerce for hosting! Nicole, great article that details much of what was said. I believe it will be able to be viewed on Redondo's Chamber of Commerce website in the near future. I'm in District 4 and I'm voting for Jan Jeffreys.
