This week, the city of Redondo Beach is giving busy holiday shoppers a break—on parking, that is.
Though parking at the and pier plaza parking lots was free between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily last week and will remain free through Dec. 26, the bagged the meters in Riviera Village on Monday.
Parking in Riviera Village will be free from Monday through the end of 2011, the City Council decided during a November meeting.
The bags on the meters request that people remain in each spot for only two hours.
The free parking, which is designed to entice shoppers and diners to the pier and Riviera Village, will cost the city about $60,000—$28,000 in Riviera Village and $32,000 at the pier parking structures.
The pier parking structures will continue to charge for parking between 8 p.m. and 11 a.m. daily.
