Don't Mail Ballots—Drop Them Off, Officials Urge

Steve Diels and Dawn Esser are vying for the position of Redondo Beach City Treasurer.

Redondo Beach residents who plan to vote in the special runoff election for Redondo Beach city treasurer and have yet to cast their ballot should drop off their ballots at City Hall between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Friday or Monday.

Ballots sent in the mail Friday, Saturday, Monday or Tuesday will probably not be received by the 8 p.m. Tuesday deadline, and thus will not be counted.

"At this point, we are telling people they should walk in their ballots to make sure they count," City Clerk Eleanor Manzano told Beach Reporter editor Paul Silva.

There are no polling places because this is an all-mail ballot; however, people can drop their ballots off at the City Clerk's Office or the North Branch Library between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

The City Clerk's Office is located at Door C of Redondo Beach City Hall, 415 Diamond St. in South Redondo Beach. The North Branch Library is located at 2000 Artesia Blvd. in North Redondo Beach.

Steve Diels, a businessman and former District 4 councilman, is running against Dawn Esser, a former chief financial officer and activist, to replace former Treasurer Ernie O'Dell, who retired abruptly in December. Because he had more than two years left on his four-year term, the city charter required Redondo Beach to hold an election to replace him.

Diels and Esser were the top-two vote-getters in a field that included former Councilman Chris Cagle in the May election, and thus head to the July runoff.
