The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded an $800,000 grant to the city of Redondo Beach for the construction of the new transit center, Rep. Janice Hahn's office announced in a news release.
“Efficient and well integrated mass transit is critical to the LA-region’s transportation future,” said Hahn, who currently represents Redondo Beach in Congress. “When mass transit works, we reduce traffic congestion and help clean our skies. Investments like this are good news for our lungs and our commute times.”
The new transit center, located in North Redondo Beach, will include a park-and-ride lot, according to Hahn's office. It will replace the current transit center.
The grant will also fund the purchase of driver simulator training equipment at Torrance Transit's future regional transit center, according to the DOT.
