Lieu Threatens Lowe's Boycott

State Sen. Ted Lieu calls the hardware store's apparent decision to rescind its ads from a TLC program about Muslim Americans "bigoted, shameful, and un-American."

A South Bay state senator is angry that a nationwide homebuilding supply company reportedly pulled its advertising from a cable television show about Muslim Americans.

Sen. Ted Lieu, whose district includes Redondo Beach, said he may ask for a boycott the Lowe's chain unless it reverses its decision and apologizes for pulling its ads from the TLC Network broadcast All-American Muslim.

Lowe's pulled its advertising from the show after being contacted by members of the Florida Family Association.

In several emails to its members, the Florida Family Association called the show "propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values."

The association also published a letter from Lowe's Cos., saying the hardware chain agreed to stop advertising associated with the show.

Lieu called the move "bigoted, shameful and un-American."

The company's North Carolina headquarters issued a statement calling All-American Muslim a "lightning rod" for people who have "strong political and societal views on this topic," and said it will pull its ads because it is "best to respectfully defer to communities, individuals and groups to discuss and consider such issues of importance."

Editor's note: This article has been updated to include comment from Lowe's.

My post to Lowes on facebook:
I will purchase NOTHING from Lowes until you reinstate your advertising on All American Muslim. Muslims are Americans too, and All American Muslim is informative and enlightening. I'm stunned that you have allowed yourselves to be bullied by a right-wing hate group. You have been scammed. What's next? Removing advertising from TV shows that feature African Americans? Hispanics? How about removing your advertising from CHRISTIAN-based TV shows? Christians are the most hateful, divisive people our country has to deal with. You have NO commitment to diversity and inclusion - NONE.

Time to go shopping at Lowe's. Why doesn't Lieu get cracking on lowering taxes, cutting regulations and creating a business friendly climate so that businesses come to the state instead of leaving like a stampede of longhorns to Texas and business friendly states?

Lowes has a right to advertise anywhere they want. The gov't (Lieu) needs to keep his nose out of business. Go back and do the gov't business..........lowering taxes, fixing roads and securing our nation from our enemies.........

Let all of those who claim to worship God, who claim to revere a middle eastern, Jesus Christ, as their Lord and Saviour, and who claim to have compassion for all life, believing it to be sacred, let these believers demonstrate their capacaity for humanity in their posts online. What used to be amusing, has grown tiresome and concerning, as countless self-professed compassionate and conservative americans regularly and brilliantly display a more developed capacaity for hatred, bigotry, meanness, and unabashed ignorance. "Father forgive them for they KNOW NOT what they do." Nvwado Hyadv (cherokee), shalom (hebrew), peace (english), Al-salaam wa eleyi kum (Jesus' modernized native tongue) "Father please forgive them forthey KNOW NOT what they do, and may there be mercy upon THEIR souls, and so i pray. ora et labora, Vitam impendere Vero (prayer and work, life deVoted to truth).

I read the story three times and am unclear what the story is about. This story is written at about the level of a 10 year old. The writer should be ashamed of such poor journalism. I plan to get facts and then make up my mind with out any knee jerk emotion's. One fact I do know is that Ted Lieu has racial chip on his shoulder. Every one needs to take a deep breath until all the cards are on the table.

In this terrible economy, especially in California, why would ANY politician intentionally try to damage a business's ability to make sales? Hey Ted, less sales mean less tax revenues for all you Democrats to spend on unwanted or needed wasteful projects.

"The senator vowed to look into whether Lowe's violated any California laws and said he would also consider drafting a senate resolution condemning the company's actions."
How about you look into real criminal actions? One Company's business decision to not get involved in a controversial issue is NONE of any politician's business! Stop wasting taxpayer money over this! But that is the only thing you know how to do - waste money!
