The city of Redondo Beach honored longtime employee Maggie Healy with a key to the city at last Tuesday's council meeting.
"This is a very bittersweet day," said Mayor Mike Gin as he began his presentation.
Healy is retiring after nearly 30 years working for the city in several positions—most recently as an assistant city manager. She also recently served as the acting director of recreation and community services.
"It's been a really remarkable career," Gin said.
Redondo Beach has always been her home, Healy said. "In many ways, I grew up right here working for the city."
"I'm proud to be part of a team of employees so extremely dedicated to their work," she said.
Her boss, City Manager Bill Workman, called her a "shining light" and an "effective right arm" with her years of institutional knowledge.
"I basically fell out of my chair" when Healy announced her resignation, Workman said.
Healy plans to attend the Pacific Coast University School of Law.
