City Appoints New Library Director

Susan Anderson will begin her duties as director of the Redondo Beach Library on Feb. 3.

The Redondo Beach Library has a new director, authorities announced Tuesday.

Susan Anderson, formerly a library manager for the Los Angeles County West Hollywood Library and a managing librarian for the Austin Public Library in Austin, Texas, will begin her duties in Redondo Beach on Feb. 3, according to a news release from the Redondo Beach City Manager's Office.

"Anderson distinguished herself during the selection process by displaying a keen understanding of the importance of libraries connecting to communities and is experienced in new ways to keep libraries vital and relevant," City Manager Bill Workman said in a statement.

Anderson holds a master's degree in library and information science from the University of Texas, as well as a bachelor's degree in sociology from Colorado College.

She replaces Interim Library Director Christine Hach, who replaced former Library Director Jean Scully.

Anderson's appointment comes more than six months after the Redondo Beach City Council decided to reject Workman's proposal to de-authorize the position of library director after Scully's retirement and combine the department with the Department of Recreation and Community Services.

The Redondo Beach Library system has two libraries—the main branch at the Civic Center on Pacific Coast Highway and the north branch at the intersection of Green Lane and Artesia Boulevard.
