Waterfront Revitalization Vision Emerges

Pike Place Market in Seattle is one of the inspirations for the redesign of the Redondo Beach Pier and Marina areas, the Daily Breeze reports.

Waterfront projects in Washington, Oregon and Utah are among the locations the developer of the Redondo Beach pier and harbor is drawing from for ideas, according to the Daily Breeze.

CenterCal Properties of El Segundo unveiled its initial plans Saturday to residents, businesses and community leaders at a Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center gathering aimed at soliciting reactions to the redesign.

The company's vision for the waterfront includes a small boutique hotel by the shore as well as a small movie theater that would serve dinner.

CenterCal was chosen in 2012 to develop the 15 acres of waterfront property, including the Redondo Beach Pier, International Boardwalk, Redondo Beach Marina and Pier Plaza.

Saturday's meeting was the fifth in a series of workshops to gather community input about the major Redondo Beach redevelopment project.
