A team from Redondo Union High School will compete in the annual California Academic Decathlon on Friday in hopes of winning a trip to the national competition in Minneapolis in late April.
Redondo Union is one of 17 high schools that qualified for the state championships in Sacramento, will compete in the state competition Friday. The theme of the competition is "Russia."
Redondo Union earned 43,053.8 out of a possible 65,400 points in the Los Angeles County Academic Decathlon to qualify for the state championship. Other local schools competing are West High School and South High School.
A second Redondo Beach team will compete in a different Academic Decathlon state competition.
The St. Lawrence Martyr Junior High Decathlon Team, which was named overall champion at the 23rd annual Los Angeles Archdiocesan Academic Junior High Decathlon on March 2, will compete in its respective state championships at St. Anthony of Padua in Fresno on May 4, according to the Beach Reporter.
