Parade to Honor Basketball Champions

The Redondo Union High School varsity boys basketball team will be honored for its state championship win—the first in school history.

The city of Redondo Beach will celebrate the Redondo Union High School boys varsity basketball team's Division II State Championship with a parade and rally Thursday.

In a statement sent to news media, the city announced that the parade will begin at 3:15 p.m. at the parking lot at 200 Pacific Coast Hwy., then circle the high school campus and end with a rally at city hall at 3:45 p.m.

Members of the championship team and their coaches will ride in a double-decker bus along the route with police and fire escorts.

At the rally, Mayor Mike Gin and Redondo Beach Board of Education President Anita Avrick will speak; new Coach Reggie Morris Jr. will introduce members of the coaching staff and the team.

Cheerleaders from the high school and other student groups will also participate in the rally. Everyone is invited to attend.

Redondo Union capped a 21-game winning streak when the team clinched the Division II State Championship with a 54-47 victory over College Park High School in Sacramento. Under the leadership of Morris, the team achieved a 28-8 record over last season's 10-17.
